An extensive two-month cruise circling Australia is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older woman who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel discovered the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt located her body the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that guests and crew on the ship were told that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the ship.

The liner initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "shocked and saddened that the ship left the island after an planned outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "energetic elderly person" who was a affiliate of a hiking group.
